Cars Yeah with Mark Greene

Boyd Coddington Jr. grew up in his father’s hot rod shop and wheel factories learning every lug nut and bolt of the companies using the time-tested methods of “hands on / bruised knuckles”. He expanded the company’s product line helping to grow Boyds Wheels in to the largest custom billet wheel company in the world producing nearly 220,000 wheels annually. After the untimely passing of his father in 2008, Boyd acquired the Boyd Coddington trademarks and brands and started an aftermarket design studio and brand licensing company. In 2014 he founded Boyd Coddington Detail Garage, a high-end line of professional/enthusiast car care products. Carrying on his father’s hard work, dedication, and inspiration Boyd continues to grow the Boyd Coddington Companies.

Peter Gleeson is an automotive enthusiast whose passion for cars began when he was a child growing up in South London and trips to Brands Hatch to see the races. From his meager beginnings Peter learned hard work, and over working, would get him where he wanted to be. After years of success in business, Peter has put together a unique and eclectic collection of automobiles that he shares through concours events and clubs. He has an incredible array of BMW Motorsport race cars, including the Peter Greg, Frank Stella Art Car, and the memorabilia that fits the era plus a wide variety of other marques and some bikes as well. I found Peter on the Lawn this year at Pebble Beach with his magnificent 1928 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A S. For Peter it’s about the art, the story, the history, and the people behind the cars.

Jason Zaideman is the Founder and President of Operation Combat Bikesaver. He is a United States Army Veteran and Combat Engineer who served Prior to 9/11. Jason started his program in a shed in his back yard as a way to help veterans and first responders. The first bike project in that shed was a green KZ750. At Operation Combat Bikesaver they build bikes with heroes, for heroes, breathing life back in to tarnished motorcycles while honing the skills and minds of Veterans and First Responders from the deafening grasp of PTSD, PBI, and Depression. Participants fabricate, paint, weld, build, and resurrect bikes that were once damaged and forgotten in to something new and truly unique. Jason's father was a US Marine in Vietnam and he was the famed Rat Fink artist Randy Zaideman. His father taught Jason and his siblings how to express themselves creatively at a very early age and now Jason is passing those talents forward.

Dennis Koleber has been building model cars professionally for over 31 years. I ran in to Dennis during Car Week while walking the paddock at Laguna Seca. He was carrying a very detailed model of a Ferrari F1 that I couldn’t stop admiring. He built his first model at the age of 6 and started winning contests with his builds at the age of 11. His careers over the years have ranged from teaching ballroom dancing, sales and training, time at the Coleman company, and 10 years in the Air Force as a cryptographer, but his passion is in model building. Today, Dennis is 70 years old, a 48 time national Champion in building model cars, and still builds highly detailed models for his clients around the world.

Christi Schimpke is a jewelry artist who founded Crash where she uses the cast off sheet metal of crashed exotic cars to form her beautiful jewelry. She has a master’s degree in Renaissance Art and worked for years at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. A metalsmithing class set her on a course to start her own jewelry business that she called Minabea, named after her grandmother. Christi’s husband Dan owns the Beverly Coachcraft collision repair shop where they repair new cars with an emphasis on high-end luxury marques. Seeing the damaged parts of Porsche’s, Maserati’s, Bentley’s and others Christi got an idea and Crash was born from the mangled parts of once beautifully crafted parts in to pieces of jewelry that is reimagined and made new again.
